Yes absolutely! Oak and walnut is one of the most common timber types for shelving due to the popularity of this particular wood. We have softwoods and hardwoods that we machine in to shelving, and our most popular hardwood is oak. It’s durable, and versatile in the sense that the grain and colour has an appealing natural beauty, but can be oiled to any finished colour and styled to any look and feel (modern or rustic).
This will vary greatly according to the type of bracket and the structure of the wall where you’re fixing brackets or shelf supports. There isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ answer as the wood itself will be strong enough to hold a substantial amount of weight, but the appropriate bracket needs to be used along with ensuring the wall is going to support any weight you intend to place on top of the shelves
